Although the maker of this work remains unknown, the provenance is somewhat well documented. Acquired in 2016, it is assumed that the artist is American, possibly originating from the Midwest, and the piece was executed circa 1935. The painting came through Ricco/Maresca Gallery, New York and Carl Hammer Gallery, Chicago and ended up as a part of the Marvill Collection, which contains superb examples of American Outsider Art and vernacular sculpture.
