Black and white photography is reliant on the artist’s attention to lighting, composition, detail and perspective. Their vision requires a heightened sense of geometry to convey scenes of life through the most basic interpretations of line and shadow. Much like his interest in Outsider Art, it is this dichotomy between the simple and complex that draws Keen to such photographers as Geoffrey Nikolas, Mimi Tierney and Burk Uzzle.
